Learning Lab Instructor (Teacher)

Position Overview

Compass Outreach & Education Center is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Learning Lab Instructor to serve as the primary educator within a mixed-ability classroom. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in reading and mathematics while supporting each student's individual learning path.

​

At Compass, classrooms are intentionally small and diverse. Students may be below grade level, on grade level, or advanced—all within the same space. The Learning Lab Instructor must be able to differentiate instruction, build strong relationships, and create an environment where students feel supported, challenged, and capable.

​

This role is critical in helping students close learning gaps, build confidence, and experience success in a non-traditional, personalized learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Learning Facilitation

  • Deliver daily instruction in Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics

  • Differentiate instruction to meet a wide range of academic levels within the same classroom

  • Utilize a blended instructional model including:

    • Direct instruction

    • Small group learning

    • Independent work

    • Project-based learning

  • Design and adapt lessons that connect skills across subject areas and promote critical thinking

 

Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction

  • Utilize MAP Growth and informal assessments to guide instructional decisions

  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly

  • Maintain documentation of student performance, growth, and learning needs

  • Collaborate with interventionists to ensure targeted academic support is aligned with classroom instruction

 

Classroom Environment & Student Support

  • Establish a structured, engaging, and supportive classroom environment

  • Build strong relationships with students, including those with:

    • Learning gaps

    • Behavioral challenges

    • Previous negative school experiences

  • Model and teach:

    • Accountability

    • Emotional regulation

    • Conflict resolution

  • Ensure student safety and supervision at all times

 

Enrichment & Whole-Child Development

  • Incorporate enrichment opportunities such as:

    • Creative arts and hands-on learning

    • Music exposure and expression

    • Outdoor activities and movement

  • Support the development of social skills, independence, and confidence

 

Collaboration

  • Work closely with:

    • Reading & Math Interventionists

    • Support staff and enrichment providers

    • School leadership

  • Participate in student support planning and instructional alignment

 

Family Communication

  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with families

  • Provide updates on student progress, strengths, and areas for growth

  • Participate in parent conferences, open houses, and school events

 

Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and functional classroom and shared spaces

  • Participate in school events, field trips, and occasional extended days

  • Follow school policies and procedures

  • Engage in continuous self-reflection and professional growth

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (preferred)

  • Minimum of 2 years teaching experience (preferred)

  • Experience working with mixed-ability or non-traditional classrooms

  • Strong understanding of differentiated instruction and small-group learning

  • Familiarity with intervention strategies or willingness to learn

 

Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Ability to manage and teach students at multiple academic levels simultaneously

  • Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills

  • Flexibility and adaptability in a growing school environment

  • Organized, proactive, and solution-oriented

  • Experience in microschool, private school, or alternative education settings is a plus

Work Schedule & Environment

  • 10-month independent contractor role (August–May)

  • Approximately 30–40 hours per week based on enrollment and program needs

  • Small group, mixed-ability classroom setting

  • Collaborative, mission-driven microschool environment focused on personalized learning

Reading & Math Interventionist

Position Overview

Compass Outreach & Education Center is seeking a skilled and student-centered Reading & Math Interventionist to provide targeted, data-driven instruction to students who require additional academic support. This role is critical in helping students close learning gaps, build confidence, and achieve measurable growth in literacy and mathematics.

​

The ideal candidate is experienced in differentiated instruction, understands diverse learning profiles (including struggling learners and twice-exceptional students), and is passionate about meeting students where they are.

​

Key Responsibilities

​

Instruction & Intervention

  • Deliver small-group and one-on-one intervention in reading and/or math

  • Implement evidence-based instructional strategies (e.g., structured literacy, explicit instruction, scaffolded math support)

  • Design and adapt intervention plans based on individual student needs

 

Assessment & Data Tracking

  • Administer and analyze assessments (including MAP Growth and informal diagnostics)

  • Monitor student progress and adjust interventions accordingly

  • Maintain detailed records of student performance and growth

 

Collaboration

  • Work closely with lead teachers, administration, and support staff to align interventions with classroom instruction

  • Participate in student support meetings and contribute to individualized learning plans

  • Communicate student progress with families as needed

  • Student Support & Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with students to foster confidence and academic ownership

  • Support executive functioning skills such as organization, task completion, and persistence

  • Create a supportive, structured, and encouraging learning environment

Qualifications

  • LOVE CHILDREN!

  • ABSOLUTELY LOVE CHILDREN AND SEEING THEM THRIVE!

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (required)

  • Certification or background in Reading, Elementary Education, Special Education, or Mathematics preferred

  • Experience working with struggling learners, students with learning differences, or intervention programs

  • Familiarity with structured literacy approaches (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson) is a plus

  • Strong understanding of foundational math concepts and intervention strategies

  • Ability to analyze data and translate it into actionable instructions

  • Preferred Skills & Competencies

  • Differentiation and scaffolding expertise

  • Strong classroom and small-group management skills

  • Ability to build rapport and motivate students

  • Organized, detail-oriented, and responsive

  • Experience in a microschool, private school, or non-traditional learning environment is a plus

 

Work Schedule & Environment

Part-time (Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday) 8:30 A.M. - Noon

  • 10-month independent contractor role (August–May)

  • Small group instructional setting

  • Collaborative, mission-driven microschool environment focused on personalized learning

  • Salary based on experience.
