At Compass Outreach and Education Center, every decision we make begins with a simple question:
Where is there unmet need?
Over the past several years, more and more families in Fort Lauderdale and across Broward County have reached out with a similar concern.
“My child is bright, but school feels unusually hard.”
“We know our child is capable, but something is not clicking.”
“She understands everything verbally, but it does not show on paper.”
When the same pattern appears repeatedly, you pay attention. We began to recognize that many of these students share a common profile. They are Twice Exceptional learners.

What Is a Twice Exceptional Student
A Twice-Exceptional student, often referred to as a 2e learner, is a child who is intellectually gifted and has one or more learning differences.
These students may demonstrate advanced reasoning, strong vocabulary, creativity, and deep curiosity. At the same time, they may experience dyslexia, ADHD, dysgraphia, executive functioning challenges, or processing differences.
Yes, those traits can exist together.
A child can be gifted and dyslexic.A child can be highly capable and still struggle academically.A bright child struggling in school is not an uncommon story.
What is uncommon is finding an educational environment intentionally designed for both sides of that learner.
Why This Population Matters to Us
Twice-exceptional students are often misunderstood in traditional school settings.
Giftedness can mask learning differences.Learning differences can mask giftedness.
As a result, families are left searching for clarity.
We plan to serve Twice Exceptional students in Fort Lauderdale because the need is real. Parents are asking for an option that combines intellectual rigor with structured support. They want a challenge without sacrificing intervention. They want their child’s strengths protected while skill gaps are addressed directly.
This is not about lowering standards. It is about removing barriers.
What Serving 2e Learners Requires
A true 2e program is intentional.
It requires:
Advanced academic instruction
Science of Reading Aligned Literacy Support
Structured intervention when needed
Executive functioning development
Small class sizes that allow teachers to truly know each student
Twice Exceptional education must be integrated. Strength and support are delivered simultaneously.
That level of intentionality does not happen by accident. It requires design.
A Growing Need in Broward County
As awareness of Twice Exceptional students increases, so does the need for specialized environments.
Families searching for a private school for Twice Exceptional students in Florida often discover that options are limited. Many programs focus only on giftedness or only on intervention.
We believe high-ability learners with learning differences deserve both.
Serving this population is not a trend for us. It is a response to a pattern we continue to see in our community.
Looking Ahead
This work requires care, training, and structure. It requires understanding dual learning profiles and respecting both intellectual depth and academic support needs.
We are planning this expansion thoughtfully.
Because when a gifted child struggling in school finally feels understood, everything shifts.
Confidence returns.
Engagement increases.
Growth accelerates.
Fort Lauderdale families deserve an educational option that recognizes that brilliance and learning differences can coexist.
And we intend to build that option with intention.
